After received a honourable mention in the last quarter’s Best Low End Providers, and being the only one in the list using KVM virtualization, which offered the capability of practically installing any OS, and for barely for 3 dollars a month, the VPS provided by Hostigation is almost a steal. However, is it really as good as it sounds? I decided to give it a shot to see. Basic Information Up until 2 weeks ago, the only VPS location that Hostigation provide was at Rock Hill, South Carolina, and for 3 USD per month, here is what you will be able to get: Hostigation has since announced that it started a new location in Los Angeles to cater to the west coast clientele and Tim has been kind enough to move my test server there too, therefore, this review will be based on the LA KVM server. Provision was almost Read More

VPS Review at July 23rd, 2011.
The World IPV6 day has just passed, however, for average home Internet users like me, IPV6 remains a distant dream than a reality: my ISP does not support IPV6 and some of my friends, even those with some computing background, have no idea what IPV6 is. Therefore, when FitVPS advertised their IPV6-only VPS offer, I was really curious to see how it is looks like and the 99 cents price for the first 3 months made me decided to give it a shot. Product Information and Miscellaneous Based on this post on LowEndBox.com, here is what you get for 0.99 for the first quarter and $10 thereafter. However the prices have been down to $3 per quarter afterwards: There are also free upgrades offer to LEB readers, however I was been told the ports are already on 100Mbps port, hence you can either double the hard drive space or double Read More

It is always interesting to see a company selling VPS services half-way across the globe, which is exactly what QualityServers did. Through their Eliminator plan, which was advertised on WHT, they have promised to have a “one-size fits all” plan. Is it really good as it has advertised? I decided to try it out myself just to see. Plans and Set Up As per their advertisement on WHT, here is the specification of the box: As per this post on LowEndBox.com, their US servers are based in Tempa, Florida with Hivelocity DC. UK is also available for the same price for those who prefer a European location. 6USD for a 600MB OpenVZ box is not exactly cheap for an unmanaged service, however for a “fully managed” service, it definitely sounds like a good deal, add 1 more pound per month and you get a Xen box, which definitely is a Read More

If you have been following this blog since its birth, you probably notice that I have recently slowed down a little from the original pace I was targeting (one review per week, which sort of give me the balance of maintaining the interest without devote too much time that would jeopardize my other priorities), as a result, I literally have a mini-queue of VPS that is lining up for me to write reviews on. Inception Hosting is an interesting company, registered in UK but their servers servers in Netherlands – The low land and the land of freedom that is famous for many of the off-shore hosts, who are “not reputable and have poor infrastructure” according to this WHT post. Could Inception Hosting be an exception or just like their names have suggested, they would just be a dream mixed with reality? Price and Set Up Inception Hosting has a Read More

Quite frankly speaking, F9 Servers is another not-so-cheap VPS service provider that should probably be excluded from the “low end” VPS list, however they are one of the very few Canadian providers in Ontario province and the company itself is located in the same city that I spent my university life at! Therefore, when they offered a free trial server on WebHostingTalk, I could not resist but to sign up for one quickly. Price and Sign Up The lowest configuration for a VPS in F9 Servers looks something like this: and here is the corresponding price: For that price, you can get a similar specification for the whole year in Montreal Canada, so I really do not see how much advantage they would have price-wise. However they claim to have pretty solid servers and very few VPS per node, which could potentially meet the clientele who needs high-end VPS. One Read More

It was not exactly my plan to get another VPS, after having 6 VPS and 3 of them are practically sitting idle. However, when I saw this test offer from TelVPS, my finger start to get itchy again. After all, for 3 cents (for 24 hours), you can’t really lose too much. Basically, this is what you get for 24 hours for 3 cents (yes, you read it right, USD 0.03): Server is located with ServerCentral (they have a link to the information sheet on the DC here) in Chicago. Setup and Control Panel The set up was instant, I got my payment received email the same time as I got my VPS login! Although it is no longer rare these days, it is always something great. Control Panel is the standard SolusVM panel with all the standard functionality: What is really great is that they have a myriad selection Read More

BuyVM pretty much the most contentious brand in the low end VPS industry, primarily due to its ability to offer one of the cheapest low end box in the industry, the famous 15 USD per year plan. The post on LowEndBox has generated more than 300 comments, perhaps more than any other posts that have ever generated, and according to this post, they basically need to answer the doubts about their profitability almost every week. Basically, for 15 USD per year, here is what you will be getting: All of their VPS offered are co-located in the data centre of Hurricane Electric in Fremont, CA. Domain name was registered barely last year and the registrant is based in Victoria, BC, Canada: and name servers seem to have different IP blocks, which is, as usual, a good thing: The interesting part is that their company website seems to be using their Read More
