Preface It was always great to see yet another refreshing review from one of the 96MB readers, jcaleb. The last host reviewed by him was Prometeous, which is arguably one of the oldest and most respected player in the low end VPS market. The host to be reviewed today, on the other hand, is a relatively new entrant in the play field. Without further delay, let’s take a look at this great review. As per the last review, only slight formatting have been done by me, so all credits goes to jcaleb. Thanks jcaleb! LET/LEB is now crowded with so many host, all trying to stand out and be successful. One company that caught my attention is CatalystHost, as they are very proud of the quality of their service and how they treat their customers. Quoting the owners in their LET offer. As always, the most important thing that I Read More

NinjaHawk is probably not one of the VPS providers who provide aggressive prices in the LEB community (which is in contrast, of, say, ChicagoVPS), and quite frankly speaking the pricing that they have, without discount at least, is definitely in the “premier” range. Although this is definitely not the first non-LEB VPS provider I have ever reviewed (you can see some of the examples here, here and here), since personally I feel that it is a matter of personal choices that some people would simply like to pay more for one reason or another (even though I do encourage readers like you to get the most work done using the least amount of resources), I definitely have higher expectations on the non-LEB providers. So how is NinjaHawk holding up with regards to this, especially after one of their founding members has left? Let’s take a look. Basic Information and Set Read More

DMEHosting has recently posted quite a few limited (20 only as per their WHT advertisement, although I have almost never seen this product going out of stock for the past few months) for a pretty big VPS at a slightly above standard LEB type of prices. Since the RAM is so big, I got curious with the offer and decided to grab one myself and see how it works. Basic Information and Set Up As per their post on WHT, here is the specs of the VPS: I guess the biggest selling point here is the 1Gbit port with 2TB of bandwidth, which, although is not unmetered, is pretty generous. Of course, 2GB of dedicated RAM makes it a pretty sweet deal for those RAM-hungry app as well. The sign up process, as indicated on the advertisement, is using WHMCS in secured HTTPS and there seems to be quite a Read More

123Systems.Net is probably one of the most controversial VPS providers in the low end VPS industry. On one hand, they are definitely selling some really cheap VPS that is many of us use for backup purposes (I have yet to see another provider offering a 128MB box for 10USD per year and 192MB VPS for 15 USD). However, they are also (in)famous on WHT for their notoriously slow response speed (see the most recent episode here). As a result, I have decided to take a look and see how things are going with them. Basic Information and Set Up I have actually been waiting relatively patiently for a while for the 128MB RAM VPS box to come on stock, however unfortunately it did not happen, and finally I decided to spend an extra 5 USD and get a 192MB RAM VPS instead, and according to their advertisement on WHT, here Read More

Nate from Kazila, emailed me back in September asking me to review their services. And of course, as the same as my previous review, I have to really apologize for delaying things so much. So let’s take a look at how solid the VPS from them are. Basic Information and Set Up As per the advertisement on LowEndBox, here is what you get for 7USD/month, the cheapest of their Xen VPS packages. As per LEB, three locations are offered at this time, Los Angeles CA with Quadranet, Dallas TX with NorthTXConnect (UPDATE: they are now with GIP networks as per Nate), New York City with Steadfast Networks. The sign up page is a heavily themed WHMCS in HTTPS, however I am a little surprised that after all the customization work, the order page still started off by asking you for a domain name, which is not necessary in WHMCS system. Matt from SSD Nodes has dropped me a message on Webhostingtalk over a month ago asking for a review on their product and although he has encouraged me to try out a VPS using SSD on the root partition, I have decided to keep up with the spirit of choosing selecting a standard LEB offer where possible and ended up choosing the small plan that is almost the same as what is advertised on LEB, with a slight modification (but at the same cost), and we’ll take a look at how this box performs. General Information and Set Up As per the advertisement on LEB, here is what you will be getting for 6.99 per month: However, while reading through the comments section, I have noticed that Matt has posted a comment that we can use SSD as a secondary storage at no additional cost, and that is what Read More

It must have been almost a month since I was contacted to by Alvish to do a review for Evolucix. So why was the delay? Well, as some of you may know, I really have quite a few reviews lining up at the moment, but more importantly, their low end VPS have been out of stock for a while. Therefore, when I finally saw they have restocked, I took the first opportunity possible and grabbed one myself. General Information and Set Up Many providers start their budget lines of VPS with 128MB VPS, but the lowest plan with Evolucix has 256MB of RAM and at 5.95USD per month, it has the following specifications: Note that TUN/TAP is not enabled by default but you can raise a support ticket to request for it. The VPS uses OpenVZ virtualization technology. Sign up was via secured HTTP site and set up was instant Read More
